Advice for businesses starting an affiliate program
Passion.io shared a few key tips for success:
Treat affiliates like customers.
Promoters need to be acquired, activated and retained. They won't promote your product unless you hold their hands closely and incentivize them strongly.

Two places:
- Our customer-base: Customers want to share with their network, and they have 1st hand experience with the product, so they can authentically promote it.
- Out network of info-marketers: Anyone selling info can add a nice revenue stream by also promoting SaaS. It doesn't compete, and it helps their audience.
Do you use any specific tactics to onboard and activate affiliates?
Co-hosting a live webinar is a good strategy, because it gives the affiliate a specific date to work towards.
What are the most important metrics you are following?
The most important metrics are: revenue, cash collected, number of leads, earnings per lead, and refund rate.
Which features have been the most helpful for your affiliate program?
Seeing the details of the referred customers (including email addresses, date joined, number of attempted purchases, plan joined etc) has helped us uncover the small number of attempted fraud incidents.
It's been helpful that we're able to move affiliates from one campaign to another. For example, if they're promoting to warm traffic, we move them from a 20% tier to a 10% tier.
Did you try other affiliate management platforms? If so, why weren’t they right for you?
No. FirstPromoter was the preferred platform by our original affiliate manager that set up the system.
